Activities

1. Learning Personas

his exercise was an enlightening experience for both of us (Rupindar and Farideh) as it helped us to think more about different aspects, that we should consider while supporting the learners in the class because similar approach might not work for everyone. Also, the teacher’s awareness about the background and goals of the student helps teacher and learner both, as they start working towards achieving the same goal. You can Find the exercise Here.

2. Corrective Feedback

I believe that ESL students need feedback. I think any corrections could help students to learn more from their mistakes, but it depends on how the instructor provides a feedback. As mentioned in Harmer's chapter7, there are many ways for giving a feedback; however, it is undoubtedly important that the instructor knows students' attitude and advises them that making mistakes is part of learning. It is a big challenge for instructors to provide an effective feedback; on the other hand, I think relies on instructors' experience. I found that Instructors who have been interacting with more students from different cultures, seems to have a better approach in providing a feedback.
